People, Groups, Movement
John Muir was born in Dunbar, Scotland. He was one of the earliest advocates of the National Park idea. When he walked from Indiana to Florida he created botanical sketches on his way. After working as a sheepherder in the high country for a season, Muir took a job in the Yosemite Valley in 1869. Muir felt a spiritual connection to nature when he roamed the valley and found out that it have been carved by glaciers. He wrote magazines and he became nationally famous because of his articles. He traveled around the world to protect nature. His three night camping trip with President Roosevelt could be considered as the most significant trip for conservation in history.
John Muir was a legendary conservationist in the year 1892. He was the founder of the Sierra Club, the largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization. He had two million members and supporters. The Sierra Club helped people and businesses to move away from the dirty fossils fuels that cause climate disruption and toward a clean energy economy. Muir inspired people to protect natural areas for their ecological importance. He did not let his obligation get worse
Theodore Roosevelt was the first progressive president. He supported reforms in business, public health and the new area of conservation. He was an outdoorsman and a hiker. While he was president he created five national parks. He also signed the Landmark Antiquities Act and used its special provisions to unilaterally create 18 national monuments, including the Grand Canyon; set aside 51 federal bird sanctuaries, four national game refuges, and more than 100 million acres worth of national forests.

Reform
The conservation movement led to reforms to help the environment.
President Theodore Roosevelt created the National Park Service. He created 5 national parks, 18 national monuments
including the Grand Canyon, 51 federal bird sanctuaries and over 100 million
acres of national forests. The land was set aside and protected from development. These
lands are still protected by the government.
The Sierra Club has been able to protect millions of acres of wilderness. Later, the group helped to make laws like the Clean Air Act and the Clean Water Act. They also help to protect endangered species.
