The Progressive Era (1890s-1920) was a time in U.S. history when many people worked together to fix the problems of the Gilded Age. These people had progressive ideas about what American society, government, and business should be like. This time period is also known as the Progressive Movement. A movement is when many people work together to achieve a goal.
The people of the Progressive Era worked together to end child labor, get women the right to vote, make sure the government was fair, control powerful monopolies, protect the environment, make sure our food is safe, and improve the lives of workers. Many of the changes made during the Progressive Era are still with us today. Explore the reform issues of the Progressive Movement by clicking on the buttons to the left.
